Our Pulp and Paper engineering graduates from 2019 and 2020 are now well into their first year of a new two-year programme, focused on developing them as effective team members and preparing them to take on leadership roles in the near future.

The programme has been designed internally and is delivered as a 'blended solution' comprising a mix of online study with associated short assignments, and one-on-one follow-up consolidation sessions with the Programme Manager.

Participants are assigned one module per month, which they can complete via our Learning Management System, at a time that best suits them. On completion of each module, participants are asked to complete a reflective log, which serves as a basis for the one-on-one consolidation sessions. This solution offers maximum flexibility and minimal impact on operations.

The leadership / teamworking programme comprises 13 modules, which deals with the fundamental knowledge and skills that our frontline leaders need to work professionally, as people managers and team members in their operational environments.

Year one of the programme includes three full-day group sessions, aimed at encouraging networking and collaborative working between our Kinleith and Tasman mills. These sessions are a combination of serious input, team challenges and good fun.

The first of these days was held in Rotorua in November (see pics). The “serious” input for the day focused on understanding the true meaning of the terms 'competence' and 'performance', as an introduction to the next online module, which deals with optimising performance. The day was deemed a success by all and certainly achieved its objective of bringing the two sets of graduates closer together.

The second year will focus on providing generic professional skills and technical enhancement, customised to the individual’s engineering discipline.

At OjiFS, we are committed to helping our hard-working, skilled and passionate people reach their potential, and we are very proud of how our graduates are progressing through the programme.
